SANTA ANA, Calif. – The American Red Cross of Orange County is assisting those affected by yesterday’s fire at Americas Best Value Inn in Lake Forest. Red Cross volunteers responded to the scene and provided evacuees with food and beverages as well as clothes for those in need. By early afternoon, the Red Cross had opened a shelter at El Toro High School that offered fire victims a safe place to stay, showers and a change of clothing. Approximately 41 evacuees checked in to the shelter, 30 dinners were served and nine people spent the night. The American Red Cross of Orange County will continue to provide relief and recovery to victims of this fire. Motel guests and residents are encouraged to call (714) 481-5300 to determine whether they are eligible for additional Red Cross disaster assistance. The Orange County Chapter urges all Californians to use this incident as an incentive to prepare for their own emergency.
All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. You can help the victims of thousands of disasters across the country each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of disaster.
